As I’m sure you’re already aware, Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, announced their latest creation, their rendition of a tablet computer – the iPad. As with all of Apple’s hardware announcements, the whole technological world is up in arms about this new “magical” device to come from the Cupertino-based company.
Despite the “majestic” stance Apple seems to have, we all have to remember, they’re just another technology company. Sometimes flawed by design aesthetics or lack of through hardware testing (as with the MagSafe Power Adaptor or Apple TimeCapsule), Apple does have a tendency to leave out the most obvious of hardware features.
For this year’s latest new hardware form Apple, I’ve found a few missing ideas for the tablet. I’m not going to cry about the obvious missing web cam, personally I don’t see the point of the idea of a web cam on a tablet.
Apple has given new life to the tablet market, I’ve actually been thinking about saving up to pick one up, but I’m not planing on picking up a “Revision A” version of the hardware just yet. Apple has one port on their device, the usual 30-pin “iPod Dock” connector, which for me isn’t really enough for this high-potential device. Apple needs to include a couple of USB ports, and an SD-Card slot. I was also a little surprised to see that Apple didn’t include a Kingston lock. Apple has ‘made up’ for the missing USB and SD-Card slots by creating adaptors for the Tablet, but that just gives mobile photo journalists something else to buy, loose, or misplace.
The tablet device itself isn’t bad in concept or execution. In fact, I fully expect multiple industries to adopt Apple’s newest product, but I feel that the first revision of the hardware isn’t up to par with the expectations I’ve come to have for the Cupertino company. Maybe the second generation will be more rounded out for public adaptation.
