Advancing the Curve

March 17th, 2011

A few nights ago, I picked up a couple of books from a Borders bookstore that was closing their doors. Both books support my latest online project of developing a new website for Volkswagen and Audi enthusiasts, as discussed earlier this week, including the installation, set-up, and customization of Drupal 7 as a content management system.

I find the book helpful during this process, but would like more tutorials on real-world scenarios, such as setting up an event calendar, and an online storefront. What can I say; I have big dreams and would like to see The Wolfsburg Clique fulfill them as the project continues forward.

I have thought about pushing this project through the customized way and develop the system from scratch from the top to the bottom using the latest W3C standards of HTML 5, CSS 3, XML, RSS agitation, and PHP 5, but for a project like this, it may take a while to build and set up. I’m no Mark Zuckerburg.

I also picked up a book about Google Analytics. This should provide some insight on understanding data traffic as it becomes available through the site.

Since my time at Network Communications came to an end in January this year, I have taken an interest in content management and writing for the web properly. Search engine optimization and marketing are going to play an important part of the project, as well as my own blog. Social media will also play a focusing role in it’s marketing. Mainly publishing on Twitter to hopefully generate online interest through an account.

I suppose it’s time to hit up Amazonfor SEO books.

My credit card isn’t going to like this.

While Internet Explorer has been losing ground to Firefox over the past few years, the browser wars have appeared once again; this time it’s a battle between FireFox and the other guys: Apple Safari, Opera, and now, Google Chrome. Google Chrome hit the web browsing market on September 2, 2008 for Windows XP and Vista, and was welcomed as an alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 browser. The open-sourced WebKit HTML-engine and a Google-built JavaScript engine, dubbed “V8 JavaScript”, help power the Chrome browser. » Read more: Browser Wars: Google Strikes Back
