Pioneer AVIC-F900BT Installation

June 22nd, 2009

Late last year, while I was visiting my friend Chris down in Pensacola, we stopped into a Best Buy and found a sat-nav system for the Golf. After doing some price comparison, shopping around, and conversing with friends, I found and ordered an expandable satellite navigation system.

I ordered the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT Satellite Navigation system, as well as the Sirius radio module, and was able to pick up the iPod connector at a local electronics store. After pulling everything together, and doing some test fits, my dad and I were able to install, secure, and hard-wire the unit into the 2000 Volkswagen Golf. » Read more: Pioneer AVIC-F900BT Installation

WordPress iPhone App

August 4th, 2008

WordPress has released their mobile blogging tool for the Apple iPhone. Avilable in the iPhone’s AppStore as a free download, the application will work with either WordPress blogging servers or self-installed systems, and provides locally saving posts to the iPhone, or remotely to your server.

For a first release, the application seems well rounded, and allows the blogger-on-the-go easier access to scripting posts.

Although, the application is missing a few things:
- Photos/Image postings
- Linking to external websites
- YouTube embedding
- Access to administrative features (approve/decline comments, etc.)
-Access to the camera for quick photos posts

Aside from those features, which I would expect to see some funtionality in the next release, the WordPress App is steady and strong.

BTW: I wrote this post using the WordPress App on my 3G iPhone.

[UPDATE 1] I stand corrected, the WordPress Application does allow access to posting photos.

[UPDATE 2] The WordPress App could benifit from having a more intuitive posting options, including “Delete”. And Rich Text Formating (MagicPad anyone?)

[UPDATE 3] Also, having control over options, such as allowing comments would be a benifical feature as well.

[UPDATE 4] I’m slowly discovering that, while the WordPress App is decent, it still has its flaws. The latest issue seems to be that the app crashes from time to time. Hopefully, the updated version will address this issue.

iPhone 3G – Finally

June 17th, 2008

Okay, so last Monday (June 9th), Steve Jobs took center stage at the WWDC 2008 and made some awesome announcements regarding the iPhone’s 2.0 Firmware that’s scheduled to be released “Early July,” after which, other Apple head honchos got on stage and talked about the 2.0 Firmware upgrade. Some developers got up, talked about their newest developments for the iPhone using the SDK – blah, blah, blah.

About an hour and a half later, Steve Jobs reclaimed the stage to thank everyone for coming and commented that WWDC 2008 is the first time a WWDC has been sold out. All 5,000+ seats were filled – from press, to staff, to developers, every seat was filled.

But just before Steve released the conference, he made his most important announcement since the original iPhone. The announcement everyone’s been waiting for – the iPhone 3G. Steve continued for about 20 minutes talking about the iPhone 3G and their plan for world domination in the smartphone market. In my opinion, they have a strong product, but growth in the Asian markets is going to be slower than expected.

3G iPhone – Updates

May 3rd, 2008

So, the 3G iPhone news has reared it’s promising head once again – although this post has more research poured into it, and will hopefully be a more ‘accurate’ write up of the upcoming refreshed mobile device offered by Apple.

So far, AppleInsider.com[1] and TGDaily.com[2] both report that the iPhone is going on a diet, dropping around 38 and 48 grams over it’s current 158 grams. Along with the weight loss, TG Daily reports that the phone sliming down its thickness by about 2.5mm to 9.1mm from it’s current 11.3mm thickness. Gizmodo[3] also referances TG Daily about the thinner iPhone. Apple Insider quotes the Taiwan Economic News say that “In addition to weight advantage, the latest version is also more energy efficient and externally smarter[.]” and that the “LCD screen on the phone measures 2.8 inches diagonally, a downsize from first generation’s 3.5 inches.” I personally don’t see Apple dropping the size of its multi-touch screen, I see that the iPhone’s current screen size is one of its strong selling points. It’s a great display for Apple’s Mobile Safari, as well as Video Podcasts, Movies, TV Shows, and YouTube Videos.

3G iPhone Rumors

April 30th, 2008

Alright, it’s been about 9 months since the original Apple iPhone hit the market. And with it’s 1 year anniversary just 4 months away, with out any hardware updates (As great as the 16GB model is, it’s no hardware update) the device has aged quickly in technical specifications and features.

The first generation iPhone is still an amazing device despite its dated hardware, and with the 2.0 software on the way and the iPhone SDK released earlier this year, the first generation has a lot of (software) potential ahead of it. But with a lot of the fan-fare-frenzy gone from the 1st Generation iPhone, attention has turned to software updates, hacks, jailbreaks, and unlocking the iPhone. Which gives hackers and developers alike a wonderful platform to develop applications that enhance the iPhone as a mobile Internet device. While news of these stories float the Internet and are informative, they’ve also lost their sparkle of interest in my opinion.

Apple’s iPhone is Released!

June 29th, 2007

Apples iPhone is Released! a660205213 711578 5442.thumbnail

The long awaited Apple iPhone finally debuted on June 29th at 6 P.M. No, I didn’t get to wait in line to see the magic device. I had to leave work and go pick up my dad from coming home from being out on the road for work for the week. After which, we came home and dad rested and I worked on some projects. Later on we went out to eat at a restaurant near an AT&T store. While we were eating dinner, the sky opened up and it just poured. After about 10 or 15 minutes, it let up some and we left and drove over to the AT&T store. And I experienced the first ever, Apple iPhone mobile phone device. This thing is amazing as it is now, although it is lacking some features; major features in my opinion.

I wasn’t able to get a good chance to tinker around with it – not because of crowds – but the batteries were dead from hours of continuous use. Right up front was the iPhone display. A tall, white, gleaming rectangular ‘tower’ with a TV display and two iPhones docked for display and usage. Sitting side by side on a shelf there were two slick, shining, elegant iPhones.
