Short Comings of Apple’s Tablet

February 4th, 2010

As I’m sure you’re already aware, Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, announced their latest creation, their rendition of a tablet computer – the iPad. As with all of Apple’s hardware announcements, the whole technological world is up in arms about this new “magical” device to come from the Cupertino-based company.

Despite the “majestic” stance Apple seems to have, we all have to remember, they’re just another technology company. Sometimes flawed by design aesthetics or lack of through hardware testing (as with the MagSafe Power Adaptor or Apple TimeCapsule), Apple does have a tendency to leave out the most obvious of hardware features. » Read more: Short Comings of Apple’s Tablet

Is iPad OS 3.2 really the new iPhone OS?

January 30th, 2010

When Steve Jobs first displayed Apple’s new tablet computer, dubbed “iPad”, one of the first thoughts to cross my mind was “Is this a preview of the next generation iPhone OS?”

While the new device is claimed to be running a modified version of the iPhone OS, I speculate some of the features of the iPad OS (aka: 3D Dock, iBooks, new versions of Calendar and Contacts, and others) might find their way over to the iPhone and iPod touch devices.

Engadget reported early Friday morning, that the iPad OS has been ‘jailbroken’ to run on the iPhone and iPod touch, however after watching the included YouTube video, the “iPad OS” is simply a hacked iPhone with an applied springboard theme applied. Here’s the link to the Engadget report. » Read more: Is iPad OS 3.2 really the new iPhone OS?

Apple, Fujitsu Battle over iPad Name

After countless years of development, and an on-again, off-again project status with a tablet computer, Apple may be faced with yet another speed-bump with the “iPad” product name from Fujitsu. The Tokyo-based device manufacture filed for the “iPad” trademark in 2003, according to a New York Times article.

“Mobile is a keyword for Fujitsu’s iPad, too,” Mr. Yamane said [in the New York Times article] “With the iPad, workers don’t have to keep running back to a computer. They have everything right at their fingertips.”

Apple’s Attempt at a Tablet Computer

Today, Apple’s CEO and co-founder, Steve Jobs, took stage to announce a new their latest product, something to ‘fill the gap’ between the smartphone and laptop market, a niche market filler. Apple named this “mobile Internet tablet device” the iPad… they should have named the “iFail”.

The Apple-based tablet is quite an interesting device by itself, but the name is just – wrong. “iTablet”, “Apple Tablet”, or “MacBook Touch”, or whatever, would’ve been a better choice for the device. The iPad name, however, really doesn’t strike or appeal to me. There’s no “wow” factor with the name that makes it a cool, or an attractive name. » Read more: Apple’s iPad Tablet Computer

Verizon iPhone Coming Soon?

January 20th, 2010

As we enter the year 2010, many Apple Fanboys (myself included), are eagerly awaiting Apple’s fourth generation iPhone, the mobile smartphone device that changed everything we knew about cell phones.

Verizon iPhone Coming Soon? 200px Verizon Wireless LogoWhile the rumors have been around since mid-2009, just around the iPhone 3GS’ announcement, that Apple and Verizon Wireless have been in discussion about releasing the multi-touch headset device on to the network. In fact, there are stories going around (I’m not 100% sure about the story, so no quotes or information here) that Apple actually talked to Verizon first prior to the 2007 release on AT&T’s network. As the story goes, Verizon turned down Apple because of the bandwidth the device required to work as designed. » Read more: Verizon iPhone Coming Soon?

Apple’s Latest Creation

January 20th, 2010

The rumors have been floating around the Internet, and with each passing day as we get closer to Apple’s January 27th media announcement, they get more and more elaborate and realistic.

Apple’s Latest Creation Apple logoThe most recent rumors turning out have been about an Apple-branded tablet device. Pretty much a Macbook without a keyboard, but with a touch screen, or (as some have described the device) an over-sized iPod touch.

I have no doubt that Apple has been working on a tablet over the past few years, as rumors of the long awaited device have been circling the Internet for a number of years. And, in typical Apple fashion, Apple has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the device. » Read more: Apple’s Latest Creation
